In a single moment in time, two pairs of beautiful eyes locked gazes.
And an acknowledgment of a kindred spirit was made. The remainder of the act was played out as it had been scripted, but...
Two souls had met that day. Two souls that instinctively knew each other, and an almost primal bond was made.
And the Earth’s fate twisted.

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"You’re not hurt, are you miss?"
The girl and boy on the ground merely looked at the other standing before them, gun trained on the fallen boy.
"No matter what way I look at it, you’re the one who’s the bad guy."
Icy blue and hard violet eyes met.
A slow, knowing smile stretched a boy’s face.
Similarly knowing, albeit hidden, an answering sentiment echoed through another’s mind. ~I know you...~

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@Two arrogant children toyed with the lives of all they came into contact with, wreaking havoc and despair in almost god-like proportions. Beautiful, imperious, confident, charismatic, seemingly immortal children were they.
Both used differing means to achieve their goals, but both held similar intentions.
"Sex," one declared firmly. "The world revolves around sex. For even the chance to be rutting around like animals," a contemptuous hand was waved, "People will do anything for it."
"I disagree," a smooth voice countered. "You get what you want by not giving what *they* want."
"Really," the first child drawled, "What makes you think so, sweetheart?"
"You want me."
"As you desire me."
"But you can’t have me," the second child continued, voice growing heavy with seduction, "And so you love me."
"Au contraire, mon petite. I love you," a finger traced lightly over the other’s bare shoulder, "Because I *am* you."
"Maybe," the second acknowledged. With a cruel smile, the downfall of an already fallen angel was viciously proposed. "But let’s make sure, shall we?"
"Sweetheart," the first child breathed, eyes half closing in anticipation, "Whatever do you mean?"
An arrogant head was tossed back, revealing a slender, vulnerable throat. "We play a game. You go your way, I do it mine. Whoever gets a declaration of," a delicate nose wrinkled disdainfully, "‘love’ wins."
"And what do I win?"
"*If*," the word was stressed languidly, "you win, you get to have *me*."
The first ran an almost indifferent tongue over the bared column of the other’s throat. "I can have you anytime I want you. You love me, too."
"Je t’adore," the second child purred. "But you still can’t have me. Not yet. Not until we finish the scene, and the curtains fall."
"Alright," the first agreed. "I was getting bored of my current playthings anyways. I assume that our target will be who I think it will?"
"Of course. Who else than that gorgeous, delicate boy?"
"This," a feral, anticipatory smile slowly appeared on the exquisitely carved features of a cruel, vicious child, "will certainly prove to be..."
"...*interesting*," The second finished, laughing.

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Ugh," Duo groaned as he flopped onto his bed enthusiastically, stretching his arms up over his head. "I hate having to stay inside with nothing to do." A burst of thunder and lightning outside seemed to punctuate his words. "Hee~ro..." he sighed, flipping onto his stomach and propping his head on his hands to look at the boy stoically typing on his computer, pretending not to notice his roommate’s actions. "Come play with me." He grinned invitingly, lashes lowered, seemingly unaware of how his demeanor was affecting his unwilling friend.
Heero found his eyes lingering on Duo’s full lips, and the way his violet eyes twinkled with some merry, inner light he’d never before found in another. ~Can I really...?~ "What do you want?"
"I want you," Duo’s grin grew wider, "to play a little game with me."
"What kind of game?"
"I don’t know," Duo carelessly shrugged. "But I’m in the mood for something... different. Something with consequences. Something..." the gleam in his eyes brightened noticeably, "*interesting*."

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"He thinks about me."
"Not when he’s with *me*."
"We’ll see."
"Yes. We will, won’t we?"
@)
~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"So..." Duo looked disappointed as he twisted his braid around in his hands, "You’re going away for awhile?"
"Duo," Heero’s intense eyes bored into Duo’s intoxicating violet ones, "I have to. I..." he hesitated, Duo looked up hopefully, carefully searching Heero’s almost impassive face for even a single sign that he might care... Heero struggled with himself, and was defeated by caution. "I’ll see you when I get back. I have to go... meet with someone."
"Take care," Duo threw his arms around Heero, hugging him tightly, ignoring the fact that Heero could very well maim him for daring such an act in public. Nevermind the fact that it was too early in the morning for people and that nobody ever went to that part of the city anyways. "I’ll miss you." ~More than you’ll ever know.~

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"We’ve never set any time constraints, did we?"
"No..." a thoughtful little noise was made. "I don’t think we ever did."
"Should we...?"
"No... I don’t think we should. He’s proving surprisingly tough."
"For both of us."
"Yes. For us two."
"And the hunt continues."

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Heero!" Duo yelped, hopping up and down in seeming excitement, waving his arms around the air to draw the other boy’s attention, as if his distinctive blacks and long braid were to be missed by anyone. Especially not by Heero.
"Duo," Heero acknowledged him with a brief nod of his head.
"You really ought to have kept touch," Duo said brightly, "I mean, after the whole Denkim Barton debacle, I thought you’d stay a bit, before running off to do whatever it is you do. Or meet whomever it is you meet." His violet eyes held a strange -- almost resigned -- knowledge in their depths.
For what was perhaps an unprecedented event, Heero muttered a low, "Gomen." He flashed a brief, reluctant smile at Duo, and just as quickly dropped it, but for however minuscule the moment, Heero had smiled. At Duo.
Duo’s eyes widened. ~Well. Something new *is* seen everyday. Interesting.~

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Closer yet, and closer still..." triumphant laughter rang out, "He’s mine."
A pretty scowl was aimed at the smug first child, "Don’t be so sure."
"Ah, either way," a soft smirk wasn’t precisely the effect the second child had gone for, "I have what I want." A strange tone vibrated in the normally darkly confident timbre. Almost as if...
Alarm flashed through a widened pair of crystalline blue eyes. "You aren’t seriously falling for him...!" The second child peered into the other’s closed off face, warily looking for any signs of weakness.
"Would it bother you if I were?" The first child’s almost dreamy eyes angered the second child to no end.
This was not supposed to happen. Their little diversion was *not* supposed to affect either of them in any way.
"You’re *mine*," the furious little hiss came out, "*He* is just our *toy*. Our *plaything*. Our *puppet*. *He* doesn’t *matter*. In the greater scheme of things, he is *nothing* to us. You’re *mine*, and I’m *yours*, and that’s *it*!"
"I thought you didn’t want me to have you?"
A quickly snarled warning ended their usually playful discussions. "You have to choose. Him or *me*. Choose him, and you’ll never," the second child crawled closer to the first, eyes narrowed seductively, and undulated suggestively over the other’s body. Needless to say, the first child’s attention focused on the second completely, "*ever* have me. Choose *me*, and we continue with the game, plus," a purr was punctuated by a sharp nibble, "at the end, no matter who wins... Well, you know what will happen then."
The first child considered the second’s demand.
"Choose."

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"What’s wrong, Heero"? Duo blinked innocent seeming violet eyes down at his pensive partner. "Did I hurt you?"
"Iie..." Heero replied absently, lost in thought. Should he...? He’d certainly wasted more than enough time, but... Could he?
"Heero?" Duo repeated, tilting his head childishly to one side to look at Heero from a better angle.
"Nan demo nai."
"Really?"
"Aa," Heero sighed contentedly, drawing Duo’s unresisting body to him. Why mess with their comfortable routine? Duo didn’t need to know what he had been -- what had happened in his past. He didn’t ever need to know. Just so long as everything worked out, it didn’t matter. Not anymore.
Duo chewed on his lower lip thoughtfully. ~Just what does it take to get him...?~
@)
~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Him or me?" The strident question was asked as soon as the first child walked into the door.
"Shouldn’t I be asking you that?"
Another infuriated snarl answered the idle question. "I don’t know how you managed to escape last time without choosing, but this time..." the second child cornered the other, demanding, commanding eyes flashing, "This time you *have* to choose."
"So be it. I choose -- " Before the first child could reveal the answer, something stopped it short.
What stopped the first from choosing was the lost, lonely look that stole into the second’s eyes, pleading without words to not leave...
And that was what altered what could have been the first child’s redemption. The exquisite, familiar eyes of the second tugged at the first, reminiscent of the time when their eyes had met in the beginning, and of how in that single moment, they had chosen each other.
The first might have erred along the way, but now the connection rebound itself, tightening the bond between the two.
The first chose the second, sealing the vow with a hard, possessive kiss, the other’s arms winding around the hard body firmly.
Such a shame.
Two children who could’ve chosen another, and therefore changed their fates...
...chose each other, slamming the lid down.
On the first’s fate, on the second’s, on their victims’...
And on the Earth’s.
Such a shame, really.
A very tragic shame.

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"How long have we known each other?"
"A year, eleven months, and eighteen days," Heero replied promptly.
Duo blinked. "Do you know the hours as well?" He playfully tickled at Heero’s bare chest with a long lock of honey-shot, chestnut coloured hair.
Heero didn’t even glance at a clock. "Twelve hours."
Duo sighed, leaning his arms against Heero's chest. He rested his cheek against the smooth skin of the other boy’s shoulder. "If you can tell me that, why can’t you tell me how you feel?"
Heero stiffened. "It doesn’t matter, Duo. What matters is that we’re together."
"For how long?" Duo straddled Heero and leaned down, skin touching skin, eyes half closed as he looked down on vaguely troubled blue eyes.
"I..." Heero stopped. For what seemed like the longest time, he had been wrestling with himself, trying to finally decide if he should tell Duo. He looked up into his wide violet eyes, and his resolve firmed. "I..." The war was over, and peace was on Earth and the colonies.
All weapons had been destroyed, with the notable exception of Gundam Deathscythe Hell. For some reason only known to her, Relena had commandeered the dark Gundam, stating that it would be a symbol of the future they would build.
"Duo," Heero’s gaze never wavered from looking deep into his eyes, and with a single phrase, ended the game. The cage was locked, and the key thrown away. "I love you." There was no turning back this time.
Duo’s eyes gleamed victorious. "Thank you."
Heero was startled when the door slammed open, and a slender girl stalked in imperiously. He was even more surprised when Duo got up, and -- unheeding of his nudity -- stood next to the girl. The blonde girl’s spiteful glare towards Heero was tinged with triumph, and she wrapped her arms around the boy standing with her. "Hello, Heero," Relena Peacecraft said from the shelter of Duo’s arms.

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Tonight, it all ends tonight."
"I’ll be waiting."
"And I’ll keep the door open for you."

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Duo?" Heero’s usually impassive voice wasn’t as impassive as usual. This time, his bewilderment shone through.
"Yes?" Duo breathed, batting his lashes mockingly at Heero while Relena laughed.
"What’s going on?"
"Don’t you get it?" Relena interrupted. Then, almost repeating word-for-word what she had told Duo before, she informed him in a light tone, "He’s *mine*. *You* were just our *toy*," she stressed the word cruelly, eyes narrowing in ruthless pleasure, "Our *plaything*. Our *puppet*. *You* don’t *matter*. In the greater scheme of things, you are *nothing* to us." Relena’s smile edged sharply, "He’s *mine*, and I’m *his*, and that’s *it*!" And insultingly, she batted her own lashes at Heero. "What are you going to do about it?"
What Heero did next surprised them all. Instead of withdrawing coldly into himself as expected, Heero snapped. He lunged for the pair, teeth bared and snarling, eyes gleaming wildly, lips silently denying the truth that he could see in his Duo’s eyes...
Relena coolly drew out a gun and shot Heero at point blank range.

~~>>~~ * ~~<<~~(@"Oh, dear," Relena said mock-tragically. "I think I broke him." Her icy blue eyes gazed contemptuously at the fallen ‘Perfect Soldier’. The boy she’d spent so long chasing, in order to keep the boy at her side. Her arms tightened around Duo’s waist, her head resting on his shoulder. She carelessly dropped the tranquilizer gun she held onto the floor.
"Don’t worry," Duo said dismissively, "He’ll wake up soon enough. And we’ll be gone by then."
"Yes," Relena purred, contentedly stroking Duo’s back, "We should get back to the Sank Kingdom." She looked at Duo through her lashes, "You won."
Duo grinned triumphantly. "And so I did."
Duo pulled on dark pants and shrugged on his shirt casually. And both left the room, without even a single backwards glance towards Heero crumpled on the floor behind them.
"After this triumph, we should do something more challenging."
Relena shivered slightly in the cold weather, snuggling into Duo’s arm when he wrapped it around her shoulders. "Like what?" Life would get tedious now that their hunt was over. Who would’ve thought that the impassively glacial ‘Perfect Soldier’ would succumb? She sneered in contempt. Heero’d only lasted so long because he hadn’t been there for most of the game.
"Same thing we do every night, Pinkie."
Relena looked at Duo with narrowed eyes. "Care to elaborate?"
"We’re going for the world tomorrow."
She arched a golden brow questioningly, understanding dawning on her...
"Think about it. You’re the dearly beloved Vice-Minister, a long-lost princess to a fairytale kingdom; I’m a highly acclaimed hero of the Wars, the dashingly charming pilot of Shinigami. Think about it," Duo repeated, a sharp smile slicing through his features, "Who can stop us?"
"Indeed," Relena said slowly, a similar sharp smile appearing on her face. "Who can?"
