Reason For Living - Part One
~ a Gwing ficcie by Aquarii a.k.a. Janice
Heero dolefully pressed his nose against the glass of the window. It was raining.
Again. Sighing softly, he turned towards the direction of Sensei Matsuki - his private home tutor who was about as interesting as chalk.Sensei Matsuki drawled on, oblivious to the word ‘ BOREDOM’ that was virtually printed (large print, mind you) on his student’s face.
His Prussian blue eyes wandered to the enormous grandfather clock behind his sensei. Just five more minutes… I can do it…
The time passed torturously slow, but the young prince endured it all with steely determination.
‘ … that’s all for today, your highness,’ the tutor shut his Great Book of History and smiled at Heero with a hint of relief on his wrinkled face.
He nodded gratefully, ‘ Thank goodness. I mean, thank you, Sensei.’

‘ How’s my little boy today? Been good?’ King Yuy smiled at his grouchy looking son.
Heero screwed his little ten-year-old face up, eliciting a small gasp of shock of his prudish mother. ‘ Papa?’
‘ Yes?’ the ruler of L1 bent down and picked his only son up.
‘ I’m lonely… can’t I have a brother? Or a sister? ’
‘ Well, we’ll see what we can do about that,’ he winked at Heero’s mother, who blushed most indignantly.
‘ Papa… why must I learn from Sensei Matsuki? Can’t I go to school like everyone else?’
The king sighed. ‘ Heero, we’ve been through this before…’
‘ But Pap- ’
‘ You are my only heir to L1. We must fill up your brain with knowledge,’ he pressed a gloved finger to the boy’s forehead, ‘ which can be provided best by Matsuki-san.’
Heero lowered his gaze to the floor miserably. Almost every time he asked any question that began with ‘ why’, he would be answered by the same ‘inheritor’ thing.
King Yuy patted his son’s dark tousled head. ‘ Maybe we’ll find someone to play with you soon, ne?’
He nodded quietly in reply, ‘ I think I’ll go to my room. Excuse me.’

Drawing his knees to his chest as waves of loneliness consumed him, the young prince sobbed silently in despair. Why me?
Because you will rule over L1 one day.
Because you will be in charge of all the affairs.
Because you need to take care of the people.
I just want someone to play with me… share my secrets… is that so much to ask for?

King Yuy stroked his graying beard thoughtfully, ‘ I worry it might affect him psychologically and academically…’
His queen nodded in agreement. She sympathized her son fully, but he had to be brought up well.
For the sake of the country.
‘ I was thinking… why don’t we order one of those trained slaves?’
Her eyes widened at the unlikely suggestion, ‘ Are you sure, dear?’
He sighed. ‘ I don’t like it either, but if this keeps up, I fear the damage may be permanent. ’
She nodded again. Perhaps they could get one from the neighboring L2. They trained their slaves from childhood and they were said to be extremely well natured and obedient. The queen voiced out her agreement, whereupon her king acknowledged this and summoned his Lord Chancellor.
